Building Blocks of a Psychoanalytic Essay
Course description
Join this 5 week seminar seminar series on the building blocks of a psychoanalytic essay with Gregory Rizzolo, Editor-in-Chief at the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association.
Each meeting will focus on a different aspect of the psychoanalytic paper: the introduction, the literature review, the argument, the editing process, the ethics of confidentiality in clinical writing, and the art of taking feedback from journal reviewers. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as read examples from the literature that illustrate the components of a successful paper. .

Instructor
Gregory S. Rizzolo, PhD (he/him) is a faculty member at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute and the
Institute for Clinical Social Work. His work has appeared in Psychoanalytic Psychology, The
Psychoanalytic Study of the Child, and The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association
(JAPA), among others. In 2017, he received the JAPA Prize for the best paper of the year in the
journal. He was recently appointed Editor-in-Chief of JAPA and is the author of The Critique of
Regression (Routledge, 2019).
Expectations of Participants
Barring extenuating circumstances, participants in TAACP’s courses agree to attend all sessions, arriving on time for the entire duration of class.
As classes are online, ensure that you are in a quiet and private space that allows for both audio and video to be on.
Keep other participants’ experience and clinical information confidential.
All involved with TAACP (staff, volunteers, faculty, participants, guests) are expected to interact with each other with respect.
Issues that arise will be first discussed / addressed with the immediate folks involved and can be progressed to include faculty and/or TAACP’s administration.

Course fees are split between instructors and the Center. We believe in valuing the time and work of our instructors. The fees to Center support operating costs for current and future programming.
This seminar series will be recorded minus the discussion portion. Seminar series will be emailed to you a few days after each session so you can catch up. But all recordings will have limited viewing time period and expire 10 days after the last seminar.
TAACP wants to materially support racially marginalized voices within traditional psychoanalytic writing and publishing.
All TAACP members, regardless of race, are welcome to join this seminar series.
Our one time events are open to all.
Full refund will be given up to 15 days prior to class start minus a processing fee of $50. If less than 15 days, $100 processing fee would be charged.
No refunds once classes begin or for missed classes.
In the event that the Center has to cancel a course, full refund will be provided.
